Do You Know What a Life Coach Does Exactly?

In this article I am going to give you some background information on life coaching and explain what a life coach does exactly. There are many different focus areas for a coach but most follow a similar process that can be used on a variety of issues.

A Life coach follows a process of helping people identify and achieve personal goals and get results. A life coach does not act as a therapist, or other health care provider. Life coaching is all about being objective and providing unbiased ideas to the person being coached, so they can use these ideas to improve their results. As an independent observer, the coach can see things that are hidden from the people involved. The coach can help you reflect on life so that you can move forward in a more objective and focused path.

The process of life coaching normally begins with the intake questionnaire. This questionnaire asks many questions about different aspects of the person’s life and work. Normally from these questions the coach can find patterns within the responses that identify what is hold a person back from obtaining the goals they wish to achieve.

Following the intake questionnaire there is usually a meeting between the coach and the person being coached that allows for the two to get to know each other and determine if they can work together as a team to resolve the person being coached concerns. The sessions start by determining one or two goals or issues that need to be focused upon.

At each session of the coaching process the coach will ask questions and see what progress has been made since the last visit. Then a discussion will be held around the progress to the goal and what next steps need to be taken to move closer to the defined goal. Then homework is assigned between sessions to help the person being coached stay focused and move step by step towards the goal.

There is a saying in coaching that people do not pay for coaching, they pay for results. This is why there is such a focus on agreeing on a goal and working to obtain that goal. The goal must be clear and SMART so that the coaching results can be determined easily. Small actions lead to completed tasks that lead to fulfilled goals and improved results.

Achieved goals and focused actions are the main results of coaching. I hope that this article has provided some insight into exactly what life coaching is all about. The process of life coaching has been very helpful to many people in both their personal lives and business lives.
